It's official : noodles are no more than Master-God noodle joke opens with a dark and exciting first episode - everything is not the title. You would think not only a pasta could cause so much emotion, but if it is a stand-in for the childhood, lost innocence and murdered parents, it is a serious matter indeed
. Note: This is only a first recap episode, but I'm hooked. Who's with me?
EPISODE 1 RECAP
The opening montage shows a man going to a restaurant. This is MOO Myung-YI ( Chun Jung-myung ). In voice-over, he says that every respect has memories of noodles, served by the janchi guksu at weddings, for everyday enjoyment bibim guksu .
And then ... there are king pheasant buckwheat noodles, he says how much dish is brought to him. Noodles are first experienced by their flavor, he continues. Lifting the cup to his face, he inhaled the scent. Then the taste, and finally - he sets about his empty bowl - the idea remains in it.
He remembers the taste of the noodles cooked his mother, and his father devoted his entire life an idea of a flavor to perfect ... until he was killed. At the hands of a man walking in now, KIM GIL-DO ( Cho Jae-hyun ). The world slows and Gil-do approaches Myung-yi of the table.
He stops and asks Myung-yi, as he liked the noodles well. Myung-yi smiles easily, and no, they have not met before, so he told Gil-do. But even he says for the fourth time is. They go in opposite directions away, and Myung-yi vows: "... Yes I will definitely be back to kill you"
to 1970 Rewind where we meet child-Gil-do. He needed only once to see something, to imitate it perfectly, Myung-yi says. He sees a crying scene from a movie, and we see him re-enact it food from one supplier to finagle, in a dark funny sequence in Myung-yi narrative any cuts are open. Sobbing says Gil-do his father died (he is not) and sick his mother (she left), and his siblings with hunger cry (he is an only child).
Myung-yi tells us that Gil-do could anyone deceive except his father, who is an abusive brute, belting his son hard at any and no provocation. When he grows up, goes to the abuse, and now a young man (played by Baro ), he leans against the same wall, looking with dead eyes like his father beats him tirelessly.
a snowy night begins Gil-do the flakes in her hand, and the camera moves us almost outside lying unconscious, to show his father to head over a pool of blood. He turns his head to his son, but Gil-do simply closes the window against the night.
Fast forward to 1980. In a busy market, where Gil-do work now, a few ask him for Pink Floyd Ummagumma , he does not know. You leave to laugh his ignorance, but the letter the man's jacket (and hot girlfriend) keeps his eye. to speak Myung-yi, directly to the Gil-do in its history, he says knows what he is thinking. That he wants to turn into this guy
night finds Gil doing tampering with the ID cards of the types that he has stolen to replace the images with his own. From his name and jacket, his large glasses and hot girlfriend, he is completely him. But the creepy smile is all his own.
Gil-do interacts with an ad looking for a live-in tutor, which promises to pay well. He has lined shown in a large office with medals, where the owner's copies and handed over a wad of cash controls: he has to scratch his child to get for college entrance exams to, and is said to use whatever means necessary. When Gil-do fails, he dies. Oh, you could already friends with Gil-do father.
That night, Gil-do prowls around the office of the owner until he is sure discovered. Inside he finds a huge amount of cash, and in an envelope "top secret". Just as he is, to open it, the housekeeper found him. I do not like the look in his eyes ...
He tells her how to act this did not happen - it will return the money. As he speaks, he walks toward her, counting down in his head. On three, lobes he furtively with a heavy bowl he recorded. And then he is gone, take cash, secret envelope and murder weapon with him.
Gil-do makes its way down the dock with his head down. A soldier in uniform is doing in order to make an impression. And now he is a soldier, proud in his uniform. But he suddenly stops short at the sight of a wanted poster of himself. But do not worry, because now he is a flight attendant, walk into a hotel. And when he comes, he is someone else.
holds a VIP car, and Gil-do freezes when face to face with the coming occupant because uh-oh, it's the man whose it safe robbed. He tried for nonchalance but the owner recognizes him and his gun draws, and Gil-do running for his life.
1983. A dilapidated figure looks down at a distant, snowy cottage. Inside dough a young man kneaded to make noodles and work on a hot pan. "Ha Jung-tae A person crazy about noodles." Myung-yi describes him: ". My father"
Like Jung-tae ( Noh Young-Hak ) is to enjoy the fruits of his noodly work, there is a knock at the door. Pretend it does not belong. Do not open it, I pray thee, thinks Myung-yi.
"Father was lonely, and Kim Gil-do needed a place to hide," he says. And so, Jung-tae takes him. And slowly, under his tutelage love, learns Gil-do to make over noodles and make a friend as it gets heat and praise for what is probably the first time in his life. He promises to work hard, and Jung-tae, it proposes Chi Myun restaurant, visit a famous noodle house in Masan.
Gil-do gapes in the crowd, as they align to get in. While they eat, he overheard a pair of men talking behind them. Apparently the owner means looking for a successor, the restaurant and marry inherit his beautiful daughter. Jung-tae not noticed, and Gil-do stares off into the distance at the daughter.
He is silent on the train journey home until Jung-tae begins about how good the pasta she had to speak. Gil-do brings the idea to start their own business - it is good enough that they could make a lot of money.
But Jung-tae's not going anywhere until he perfected buckwheat noodles his royal pheasant. He still Kneading prefers to count money, he says. He sits down in a nap while Gil-do stares at him in a way that I find disturbing in its emptiness.
Some time later, Jung-tae visited a supplier, and is frozen by the sight of a wanted poster for Gil-do, the name him a murderer. As he leaves, we see he demolished it and taken it with him.
Back at his place, Gil-do come for the tractor key search, and Jung-tae forwards it to his coat pocket. The belated recognition of what else is in his pocket sends him running. Oh God, I'm so scared, as it is, but to come out, Gil-do, it's on the table was. He seems completely normal, so Jung-tae follows his lead and provides it with a smile.
But as soon as Gil-do drives away, Jung-tae recovers the poster and for a last look, he throws it in the fire.
Gil-do returns Jung-tae napping to find at the table, his head bowed over an open notebook. He stares at him with dead eyes. Noooo. Jung-tae looks upward, and Gil-do, he says heard that they could not find a particular type of fungus that they need on a mountainside. The concern is obviously on Jung-tae face.
You walk down the hill in uneasy calm, and Gil-do is preparing to go the sheer rock face down, but Jung-tae stops him and said he would TU it. Face full of uncertainty, it rises on a single rope.
He calls when he is ready to come, but Gil-do bring instead a knife and begins to cut. Jung-tae screams and creeps upwards. It is just a few feet from the top when the rope breaks and he falls.
Back in the hut, leafs Gil-do by Jung-tae noodle notebook, lips brow in a sharp smile. Elsewhere is a woman. Over Jung-tae of the battered body at the base of the mountain
Jung-tae name is out called in a municipal office, and ... that's right. The man who answers is Gil-do: "Yes. I am Ha Jung-tae," he tells her. She gives him his official seal and ID card and a copy of his family registry. Jung-tae of the card holding camp name but his picture, his grin growing. With its new identity he chooses Chi Myun restaurant and settles in with its large doors.
Meanwhile, Jung-tae recovering in hospital, tended by the woman who found him. Myung-yi tells us that, even though his father survived, he lost all his memories, and only a homing instinct led him to his cabin stumbled back. Gil-do, but won its way into the Chi Myun family - with Jung-tae stolen recipe -. His heirs are
But his father won something much more valuable. It is 1989, and his now-wife has just had a baby: ".. Me Choi Soon-seok Your Everything," said Myung-yi.
Gil-do's (now played by Cho Jae-hyun ) charmed life goes on, but in 1995 made little upset when his wife ([1945016soweitwegvonihmineinerGruppe-Fotowiemöglich] Lee Il-hwa ) stands. Myung-yi tells us that the more his restaurant grew, the more a monster Gil-do was.
The three of them, on the other hand, lived a life of simple pleasures. Although Jung-tae accident it just left, was his instinct for noodles. have made your fortune, what little they always had more than enough.
Little Soon-seok jumping over rocks in new shoes come, and his mother does not apologize for them buy sooner. He just laughs and asks if he had ever gone barefoot. She worries about his schooling while living on the mountain, but Soon-seok know Dad could not handle living in the city and is happy about the way to work.
At home that night, Soon-seok his father asks his name, but he does not know. He follows Soon-seok help him clean, but a piece of paper makes it bend shocked. It's a bit of newspaper with a picture of Gil-do as a first place winner of a noodle competition, but of course under Jung-tae name.
paper in hand, Mama get to the restaurant for looking at "Ha Jung-tae". He freezes when she asks him if he knows someone named Kim Gil-do and smoothly enters the creepy mode, it asks if they know Gil-do. I'm pretty sure that his shock not faked, but obviously for the wrong reasons. He says Mom, he would come to visit them himself, since he is required to reimburse a debt his old friend.
Mom returns home happy, think her husband's true identity is discovered. She says Soon-seok on Papas old friend, and figures he even get a job in the restaurant. You look over at Dad, who brings her noodle dinner over.
you happy to collect, and mom is just about to say the name of his father Soon-seok, when all of a sudden it backwards keels - dead? !
Jung-tae does not scream Soon-Seok to eat it before he collapses. Oh my god, it's the garnish Jung-tae was put on the pasta, is not it? You must had Gil-do. But Soon-seok also expects.
Their bodies lie inert and safe enough, Gil-do there, the place doused with gasoline. He looks at her body down and remarked to himself that although Jung-tae lost his memories, he is like a lost dog found his home, and had a wife and child. But she should not have come looking for him, he says, to pour gasoline over her body. Jung-tae twitches.
He discovered Soon-seok name on his school workbook, and remembers his good times with Jung-tae, kneading dough and make pasta. A torch of Soon-seok book "I'm sorry, but ... I'm not sad," he says, because they were the ones who came to look for him. With a sneer, he leaves the torch.
fire engulfs the cabin. He turns to the Inferno again to look back, so as Soon-seok opened fluttering eyes to see him leave. Jung-tae, rousing, crawls to Soon-seok and smothered the flames on his body, heedless own waste from the flames of his. Soon-seok breaks a window to escape, and down the way, Gil-do turns back the sound. He returns to check and Soon-seok get a glimpse of the man who killed his parents. He crouches behind a tree to be discovered in terror, but approaching sirens forcing Gil-do, to leave the scene.
And so is Soon-seok. He wades through a creek, fire burns behind him. He tucked away in a truck that takes him from Daegu to faraway Yangpyeong. Limp and bleeding, he finds himself in front of a police station. He passes. Instead, he goes to the gates of an orphanage, crying with grief and pain, as the scene fades out.
A policewoman checks Soon-seok injuries and tried gently to get his name or other identifying information, but he remains unresponsive. The grumpy director snapped, they should call him simply "Muh-myung" ( "nameless"). While the director to feed grumblings over another mouth, Soon-seok closes his eyes, as he fights to hold in his tears.
"Choi Soon-seok was Moo Myung-yi, as Kim Gil-do was Ha Jung-tae" tells Myung-yi.
Small Myung-yi watches, soaked with sweat from nightmares of fire and Gil-do in the face. A girl looks at him from the door, and she closes the door quietly.
On the day of orphan boys play football, but do not participate Myung-yi. The girl, CHAE YEO-KYUNG, defines a pair of worn shoes next to him, and says one of the boys, GO GIL-YOUNG, she stole. There is a full-blown jacket by another boy, Park Tae-HA, the not steal. Both boys waving off the field.
Myung-yi, he says they do not need, but the girl tells him he does. This is a place where you can. Only the things from noise Myung-yi says that he is different from them, and Yeo Kyung is sympathetic. It's hard when you arrive: The food will not go down, and the words do not come out. Her parents were killed, she tells him, but you can not even avenge them if they wanted to since the killer has already been executed. She gives him a pair of bright red mittens tells him to do his best to carry it - that's all they can do here.
When she goes, Myung-yi asks if she was there when her parents died. There is no answer.

Slowly Myung-yi learns to smile again, as he was taken from the other boys in. He and Tae-ha play and run together, side by side.
And now we are already in the year 07, in which an adult Myung-yi leads through narrow streets, Tae-ha ( Lee Sang yub ) still at his side.
your thieving friend Gil-young ( Kim Jae-young ) gets a beating by a group of gangsters to steal a motorcycle. He will not give up the money he got from selling them either, and claims that he has got backup coming. The boss does not believe him until Myung-yi and Tae-ha a moment later appear, from their perspective, panting.
The charge gangster, but the guys make short work of them, and it's almost poetic as their kicks flying in synchronization. Gil-young must not be a fighter, because he crouches by the melee. As the last standing Gangster, suggests the boss stands, but to impress them. He smashes a piece of wood against his own head and knocks out an action, the puzzles and maintains it to the same extent.
Gil-young thanks his friends for the rescue, but ha, Tae-ha wants only his leather jacket back (have the Gil-young have pinched). Myung-yi chides him for gangsters engage primarily, and follows Tae-ha. Glum Gil-young checks on the role of banknotes hidden in his sock. Cheering on runs to his friends.
you are still living in the orphanage, and they are in trouble with Yeo Kyung ( Jung Yumi ). She tells Tae-ha, while tending to his cuts, but when it comes to Myung-yi it softens and treated him gently blameless. she Gil-jung ignored completely, haha, and tells him to go clean.

For some reason, he forces her to call him "father", that's pretty scary coming off. He tells her to clean up the kids for an important guest, tomorrow, and at parting, she says on this pretty face should put a little makeup. Definitely creepy.
The next day, everyone gathers for a group photo, and Myung-yi is sent to the kitchen to help with the food. He approaches the boss who just light the stove. Leaping flames and sketch their profile, sending Myung-yi in memories of the fire cocoons that destroyed his family. It is of course none other than Kim Gil-do and Myung-yi breath comes short, how he experienced this terrible night.
Glad to help, Gil-do has a knife. Myung-yi stares at it, and ever so slowly reached to take it out. His fingers tighten around the handle, and he sees the man to give him.
COMMENTS
I think I loved this opener. Is it certain that to say? I am of the way, careful that Master-God noodle could go the way of aged Feeling , but I am determined to enjoy it to death until it works ( but it is not, right?). I enjoyed the touch make Myung-yi, a third-person narrator in the entire episode. There was a simultaneous sense of connection and distance, proximity and distance, by we were head in Myung-yi, but his were the only thoughts that we had access. Does anyone think Gil-do knew exactly who he was, in the opening scene?
Gil-do offers a wealth of complexity to unravel, even at this early stage. I like - and find eery - that it was not made clear whether he killed his father, or if he just died. Depending on what it was, I do not think there is no doubt that the prolonged abuse he suffered at his hands a key role played him the monster Myung-yi dubs to make it. There are a significant part of the tragedy that, too, and it reminds me of murder in dramas I Remember You and signal (by the way: Lee Sang-yub).
I am impressed with how well Baro worn the dark elements of Gil-do character and so far, he is a well-crafted villain. I'm sure there was a level of reality in the friendship between him and Jung-tae, while it lasted - those smile was real, genuine camaraderie. It was clearly the first time that he had been liked and appreciated, and his surprise and uncertainty were real, too. But none of this could take Gil-root within that knows only one response to threats: to kill. If other people fruitful and reaction spirits, Gil-do is barren and empty.
There are also an appealing symbolism of mimicry in his talent: No matter how good it is, it is never the same as the real thing. Its cracks begin to show, and I hope it's all somewhere dark. But only medium dark, because if it's too dark, I'll have nightmares. And Chameleon Gil-do is really cool, adoption and shed identities like coats, and most likely do with the original owner away. How many people he killed? He chases money, but is to fill the hole in it? How much would it take? And he is tried to fill with something, but the problem is, there is no such thing as enough, if you are a bottomless hole feeding.
Jung-tae is a great foil Gil-do, because it is almost an absolute opposite. On the mountain you could see in his eyes that knew anything was wrong, but he offered anyway to go. Who does that? It's like he can not help it, and I'm sure that's what Gil-do banks. Manipulation is, agrees to a large extent by the approval and Jung-tae, as he goes on a journey in the first place, and again when it goes down the hill. That's not to say it's his fault, because of course it is not, but it's his handicap when faced with an unscrupulous manipulator. All together, I could not feel that Jung-tae only lived, shake off as long as he did on Gil-do of sufferance. It is why his end as tragic feels and his entire sheet has me (, even though to do this could be something with Noh Young-hak) in the intestine.
And that brings us to Myung-yi. I do not think we have seen enough of him - this episode was really Gil-do is - but I am already invested in his throat. I think the backstory that was served at this hour made me emotionally invested much faster than if we had been given in scattered flashbacks. And in the case of Myung-yi, his childhood counterpart really brought the tragedy of Soon-seok home. And there is something much more strongly and deeply about the relationships he makes in the orphanage. If there is someone in the world who can begin to understand him (and he), it's a guy orphan. Mourning the loss of her parents and her former life, they all share. This is the stuff, unbreakable bonds are made, and the weight thereof is obvious between the four friends. I expect them to be fully Myung-yi side while he does his revenging. The noodles are long, but the days are short.
